Think about your limitations as well as your aspirations, planning can save you time and money, so consider the following:

[] Fiction /Non Fiction - identify which area you are    working in.

[] Genre - identify a suitable genre and look at other    works within that genre.

[] Budget - establish one and identify ways to    minimise costs.

[] Storyboard - remember a vital aspect to your film    is the initial planning and development of a story.

[] Equipment - identify what is available for the    production of your work and then investigate other    sources for equipment that you do not have.

[] Style - identify films that you enjoy and think about    how you can develop similar styles in your film.

[] Camera Angles - this is the language of film. Use    a variety of camera angles to embellish the work.

[] Location and Props - identify where all the    scenes are going to be shot and whether props    are needed.

[] Actors - help them to understand what you want    and clarify whether they share the same vision.

[] Scenes - assess whether the scenes correspond    to your initial ideas.

[] Continuity - check regularly to ensure that there is    both visual and conceptual continuity to the film.



[] Pace - ensure within the editing that the work    does not drag. Show it to others and ask them    what they think and where the film fails to keep    their attention.

[] Sound and Music - ensure that the music has    been cleared for copyright. Often a letter or phone    call to the company that produced the sound track    explaining that you wish to use a sound track for    your work is all it takes. Make sure you mention    that you are a student and the work is for
   non-profit purposes.

[] Special Effects - ask yourself, does the film need    special effects to assist in the effectiveness of the    message? Often special effects can be    inappropriately used. Think long and hard as to    why you wish to use special effects.

[] Credits - opening credits should give the title of    the film. In addition this will assist with the    handling and judging. At the end of the film,    acknowledge those who have helped.

[] Application Form - make sure that you fill it out    and submit it in the correct format together with    the application fee.

[] Deadline - make sure that the submission    reaches the address before the deadline. Post    before the due date.

[] Enjoy - whilst the production of the film is going to    be demanding of your time and energy,    remember that it should be enjoyable.
